The Journey Begins

In the bustling halls of innovation and technology, three visionaries crossed paths, sparking the inception of BeWo - a company destined to redefine sustainability reporting in businesses. Meet Mikkel Bering Alstrup, Jacob Bruun, and Allan Tharuman, the brains behind BeWo's mission to harness data for a greener future.

The seed of BeWo was planted in 2019 when Mikkel, Jacob, and Allan united with a shared vision: to track sustainability across value chains, providing businesses with the data-driven foundation they need to drive a sustainable transition. With this initial business idea the three founders started talking to relevant potential customers to validate the idea. It quickly became clear that they were on to something that could create value and a real impact by providing a platform for carbon accounting.

BeWo stands for Better World and relates to our overall goal to contribute to a more sustainable future with our work.

But the focus on sustainability wasn’t our founders’ intention right from the start, although it was and is something they care deeply about, their initial focus was on tech and data. Two of our founders, Mikkel and Jacob, have known each other since they were born and when they were around 13 years old they started talking about having their own company one day. Ever since then they dreamed of creating something to proudly call their own, and as they are both tech savvy they knew that it would be within that field.

In Search of a Purpose

A lot has changed since then but the idea of creating something together stayed. In 2019, while both of them were still finishing up their Master’s degrees, they began to try out some of their ideas together with our third co-founder Allan Tharuman. They had several concepts, and had started out with looking into Blockchain, and what became clear was that the operations would be based on tracking and certifying data across the value chain, which also came quite naturally to them due to their backgrounds.

During the research for a preliminary business model, they stumbled upon a company, Rosendahl Design Group, searching for a way to do carbon accounting. With the data-based approach in mind, they immediately gained interest in the field and started researching a way they could effectively track emissions for companies.

This turning point marked the beginning of a journey towards redefining how businesses approach sustainability.

With a background in IT and economics from Copenhagen Business School, Mikkel's expertise lies in integrating technology within organizations effectively. His journey from IT support to front-end development and project management culminated in the creation of BeWo.

Jacob Bruun - CTO & Co-Founder

Jacob holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science, specializing in AI and Algorithms from DTU. His deep understanding of technology and AI was crucial in BeWo's initial exploration of blockchain. Although this project shifted, it laid the groundwork for BeWo's current focus on CO2 accounting and sustainability. Jacob's technical expertise has been instrumental in this transition, blending his AI knowledge with BeWo's mission of environmental impact analysis.

With 10+ years of experience in management consulting, strategy and execution - Allan skilfully connects the dots between new trends and brings in the customer perspective in everything we do. His vast experience, strategic insight and keen focus on execution sets the pace of the company.

Believing in a Better World

A pilot project was launched with Rosendahl Design Group as their sustainability manager was also looking for help to approach ESG reporting. But what appeared to be simple turned out to be nearly impossible with the little and inconsistent data most companies had available at the time. Eventually, the three founders had to shape a system that allowed them to calculate emissions based on any kind of data. That’s how our vision came around: We wanted to empower Rosendahl Design Group to make informed, responsible decisions based on transparent and accurate data.

As the founders navigated the complexities of sustainability and data, they realized the urgent need for clarity and transparency in this rapidly evolving field. This experience led them to a pivotal moment: developing a platform for carbon accounting with focus on AI. This idea resonated strongly, promising real impact and value creation for B2B customers. As a result BeWo was created, simplifying the intricate processes of sustainability reporting and ESG data management.
